Hello there!
I’m Lara, a Psychologist and Counsellor based in Amsterdam, originally from the German-speaking part of Italy.
With a profound curiosity for the human mind and a passion for helping people, I knew from a very young age that my calling lay in the field of psychology. My academic journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the University of Vienna, followed by a Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Leiden University. Eager to expand my horizons, I pursued a second Master’s in Counselling Psychology at CITY College, University of York. Living and studying in different countries has given me the opportunity to experience and learn from various cultures.
During my studies I fell in love with the Netherlands, which is why I came back to live and work here. Equipped with a wide array of academic knowledge, practical training and work experience, I now offer therapy sessions to other expats or English-speaking individuals.
Member of the Dutch Institute of Psychologists (NIP, Nederlands Instituut van Psychologen)
Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)

My approach
I believe every person is unique and as a result, therapy looks different for each and every one of my clients. Flexibility and creativity are at the forefront of the therapy process, allowing us to craft an approach that is tailored to your individual wishes and needs. While I bring professional skills, knowledge and a whole lot of empathy, you remain the expert in your own life. This principle underpins my practice, as I strive to collaborate with my clients and encourage them to actively shape the therapy process alongside me.
My academic path has prepared me to work integratively, to be able to include a wide range of knowledge, techniques and resources. Drawing from Person-centred, Cognitive-Behavioural and Gestalt perspective, with additional training in Schema Therapy, I’ve adapted a holistic approach.
Based on my own journey in life, my passion lies in supporting adults who struggle with “people-pleasing tendencies” such as: difficulty setting boundaries, perfectionism, over-giving, neglecting ones own needs, social anxiety, low self-esteem and a tendency to find oneself in unbalanced relationships. Additionally, I have worked with a wide range of topics, such as: depression, bereavement, anxiety, ADHD, ASD, relationship issues, self-harm, OCD, substance misuse, body image, family relationships, burn-out and more.
My aim is to guide clients in exploring their past and gaining insight into how it influences their current thoughts and behaviours. This understanding supports the next part of the journey: creating active change. Recognising life patterns and cultivating healthy coping strategies are essential steps toward effecting change and navigating life in a balanced manner.
I don’t believe there is a “one-size-fits-all” in therapy, but together we will find what works best for you!

F.A.Q’s
How long do I have to wait to start therapy?
I can usually offer consultation meetings within 1-4 days of initial contact. Consultations are held online via a secure video platform and last up to 20 minutes. We can then start scheduling therapy sessions right away.
What do I need to prepare for my first session?
You don’t have to prepare anything for the first session. The first session is called an “Intake” and I will ask you questions to get an understanding of your situation and your background. For all following sessions I recommend taking time before we meet to check in with yourself. You can take the time to relax, drink a cup of tea, reflect on your week and think about what you would like to bring to the session.
How long should I expect to go to therapy for?
It is up to the client to decide how long they would like to have sessions for. The therapy process and length differs for everyone and allowing flexibility in duration is important. However, it is vital to note that therapy is not a quick fix, it is recommended to be consistent and expect to invest some time.
Will everything I share stay confidential?
Yes, what you share in our sessions will stay between us. The only exceptions are: signs of direct danger to the client or others, abuse or neglect of vulnerable people, legal obligations due to court order or Public Health Act (i.e., infectious diseases). I will always seek to discuss any issues of confidentiality with my clients first.
How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?
I understand how important it is to find the right therapist for yourself. This is why I offer everyone a free 20 minutes consultation. This is so you can ask any questions and to see whether you would like to continue having therapy together. Commitment to the therapy process is very important, however, you are not bound to keep seeing a therapist who is not a match for you. You are allowed to terminate our therapy agreement at any point in time and I will aim to refer you to other professionals.
Can I cancel a scheduled session?
Sessions can be cancelled up to 24 hours in advance. Cancellations within less than 24 hours notice result in a full missed session fee, except in the case of emergencies.
Does my insurance cover therapy?
At this moment, I am not affiliated with any insurance companies. However, I do suggest you inquire with your insurance to determine whether they reimburse you for privately paid therapy sessions.
Private payment offers various benefits, allowing you to receive immediate support without requiring a diagnosis or a doctor’s note. Additionally, the treatment plan is tailored to your needs, rather than following a fixed plan prescribed by someone else
